About us

We see that education has more to do with business than with true knowledge acquisition.

We know that not everyone has equal opportunities.

We want to change that.

Who are we?

Autonomous Educational Space is a collective that supports and conducts accessible and democratic education. It’s also a community created by educational, student, and collective members. You can join it too. We invite you to propose your own classes, participate in activities, and come to collective meetings. The meetings are open and take place every Sunday at 3:00 PM.

What do we do?

Why?

Raised and educated through public education, we propose an alternative to its rigid structures, prevailing hierarchies, and hidden agendas that cultivate social obedience. We want to share knowledge with others, and we want to learn from others.

We believe that only grassroots work and education can change reality. We do not charge any money for conducting classes and activities at APE. We do not receive any institutional grants or subsidies. The classes are conducted voluntarily and non-commercially.

We care about the comfort of those attending our activities and the ecosystem we live in:

  • We do not tolerate any forms of sexism, racism, classism, queerphobia, or other exclusionary attitudes.
  • The space is free from animal exploitation – we ensure that food and items we use are vegan.

We are fascinated by freedom education and critical pedagogy. We believe that non-formal education is the only alternative to the discouraging knowledge acquisition in formal schooling. We don’t memorize, and we don’t transcribe notes from the board. We have small groups and the ability to adjust our teaching methods to the individual needs of those who attend our activities.
